Gualtiero Malgoni, born in Milan in 1924 and died there in 2008, was an Italian composer and musician who was one of the defining figures of Italian popular music in the 1950s and 1960s. He began playing the violin at an early age, but had to work in a bank before devoting himself entirely to music in the early 1950s. In the middle of the decade, he signed an exclusive contract with a major music publisher and began composing successful pop songs and canzoni. Many of his works were recorded by important Italian performers; some made it to the ''Festival di Sanremo'', in which he participated several times. He became internationally known for his melodic, catchy compositions such as “Guarda che luna” and “Tua,” and many of his songs appeared in different language versions. Malgoni is thus one of the important composers of Italian post-war pop music.
