Ricardo Castro Herrera was a Mexican pianist and composer. He was born on February 7, 1864, in Durango, Mexico, and died on November 28, 1907, in Mexico City. His father was a member of Congress. He studied composition under Melisio Morales and piano under Julio Ituarte. From 1882 onwards, he enjoyed success as a pianist in New Orleans, Washington, D.C., and New York. In 1892, he was one of the founding members of the ''Sociedad Anónima de Conciertos''. From 1902, he lived in Paris, where he met the pianist Cécile Chaminade and from where he visited the conservatories in Berlin, London, Brussels, Rome, Milan, and Leipzig. He wrote a symphony and a symphonic poem, a piano concerto and a cello concerto, two operas, and numerous piano works.
