Thomas Ralf Stein was born on 12 February 1959 in Rochlitz (Saxony). After completing ten years of secondary school, he undertook vocational training leading to the Abitur at the Neptun shipyard in Rostock, followed by a degree at the IHS Warnemünde/Wustrow, specialising in manufacturing process design. He began writing his first poems and song lyrics in 1978. He has been performing as a singer-songwriter in concerts since 1984. Initially with poetry set to music. Later increasingly, and now almost exclusively, with his own lyrics. He has been a member of the Altmärkischer Autoren club since 2004, which he chaired from 2009 to 2011. Since October 2005, he has been accompanied on guitar by Edgar Kraul at his concerts.
In 2010, he was admitted to the Saxony-Anhalt Writers’ Association.
Since 2015, in addition to new songs, he has increasingly been composing instrumental pieces for guitar and piano.
Since 2016, he has been a member of the Friedrich Bödecker Circle.
Since 2025, he has been a member of the German Composers’ Association.
Thomas Ralf Stein is married and has a daughter and a son.
