Tarquinio Merula (born November 25, 1595, in Busseto; died December 10, 1665, in Cremona) was a composer and organist of the early Italian Baroque period.
Tarquinio Merula became organist in Lodi in 1616 and music director at Santa Maria Maggiore in Bergamo in 1622. In 1623, he moved to Warsaw as court organist, where he served King Sigismund III Vasa beginning in 1624. In 1628, he returned to Italy. He served as organist and concertmaster at Sant’Agata and as music director at Cremona Cathedral; from 1633 to 1642, he returned to his former post in Bergamo. From 1652 until his death, he served once again at Cremona Cathedral.
