A. Sauer’s song “ICH MÖCHTE HEIM” (''I WANT TO GO HOME'') first appeared in the New Apostolic Church’s hymnal of 1910 and was also included in the 1925 edition. Evangeliums.net lists the author’s first name as Albert—but my own research was unable to confirm this.
And here are the lyrics:
1) I want to go home; I’m drawn to my Father’s house,
to the faithful Father’s heart,
away from the world’s chaotic clamor
to the blissful, sweet peace of heaven.
I set out with a thousand wishes,
but I return home with a humble longing.
My heart still holds but a single seed of hope:
I want to go home, I want to go home.
Chorus: I want to go home, I want to go home,
I want to go home, back to my father’s house.
I want to go home, I’m drawn to my father’s house;
I want to go home, I want to go home.
2) I want to go home. In blissful dreams I saw
a noble, better homeland.
There, my place is in eternally luminous realms;
here, my soul has no rest.
Spring is gone; the swallow flaps its wings
toward home, far across valleys and hills.
No hunter’s snare, no birdlime can hold it.
I want to go home, I want to go home.
3) I want to go home. The little ship seeks the harbor,
the familiar little stream flows to the sea.
The little child falls asleep in its mother’s arms;
my weary body can go no further.
Many a song I have sung in joy and sorrow,
like idle chatter, joy and sorrow have faded away.
In my heart remains the final rhyme:
I want to go home, I want to go home.
