Asa Brooks Everett, MusDoc, USA, 1828–1875. Born in Virginia, he planned to become a doctor but decided instead to study music. He studied for four years in Boston and also for four years in Leipzig, Germany. He composed many gospel melodies and was the editor of ''The Sceptre'', a New York publication. His brothers Benjamin and Leonard were also composers. He and Leonard organized a music education system in Richmond, VA, in the 1850s. By 1861, fifty teachers and singing schools were affiliated with them and used their publications. He died in Nashville, TN.
