Hans-Jürgen von Bose was born in 1953. He studied composition with Hans Ulrich Engelmann and piano with Klaus Billing at the Frankfurt Musikhochschule. In 1976 he won first prize in the "Sommerliche Musiktage" Hitzacker composition competition. In 1977 he was honored with the Berlin Kunstpreis (Art Prize). In 1980 and 1985 he was granted fellowships at the Villa Massimo in Rome. In 1988 he won the Schneider-Schott-Musikpreis in Munich. His opera "63: Dream Palace" won the BMW-Musiktheaterpreis for the best opera score as well as the Prix de composition musicale from the Prince Pierre of Monaco foundation. Since 1992 he has been Professor of Composition at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik in Munich.
