De Hamborger Veermaster - This shanty, originally an English one (see Sacramento) was by Robert Hildebrandt, a shantyman from the German coast with a parodic text. This did not sit well with the author. When the rather humorless first officer took note of this text, the author was punished with deduction of wages in the amount of three months! The freedom of the word had its limits even then, but now the text was in the world ....
