Unknown Anonymus : O Tannenbaum (German Christmas song) arr. by Bernd Wohlgemuth
The carol ''O Tannenbaum'' (historically and regionally also O Tannebaum) (''O Christmas Tree'') is one of the best-known Christmas carols. The text of the carol in its current form goes back to August Zarnack and Ernst Anschütz, while the melody is a folk tune. Both Zarnack and Anschütz based their lyrics on a folk tune that can be found in the ''Mildheimisches Liederbuch'' of 1799 to the text ''Es lebe hoch der Zimmermannsgeselle''. Later, the melody of the student song Lauriger Horatius (“Laurel Hero Horatius”), to which it is still sung today, became established.
