Hermann Schroeder (1904-1984) was a composer, conductor, organist, music theoretician and pedagogue. His books "Harmonielehre" and "Formenlehre der Musik," written together with Heinrich Lemacher, served generations of music students as an introduction to music theory. His choral and organ compositions are found on the bookshelves of many church musicians. Every other year his music stands at the center of an international organ competition.
Hermann Schroeder belongs to the important personalities of German music history of the twentieth century. And his organ and choral music have had a lasting effect on the development of modern church music. He also wrote orchestra, chamber and secular choral music which is worth discovering.
