Taubert, Wilhelm 03/23/1811 - 01/07/1891

Wilhelm Taubert (1811-1891) studied music with the pianist Ludwig Berger. At the age of 20 he was already leading the "Berliner Hofkonzerte"("Berlin Court Concerts"). In 1841 he was appointed conductor at the Royal Court Opera. In 1842, Gottfried Wilhelm Taubert instituted the tradition of independent and regular symphonic concerts that can be enjoyed even today at the Oper "Unter den Linden" ("Lindenopera") in Berlin. In 1845 he was appointed Hofkapellmeister (Court Musical Director) at the same institution. Taubert composed over 300 songs, including "Vom listigen Grasmücklein," "Sehnsucht" and six operas, including "Die Kirmes" (1832) and "Macbeth" (1857).
