Georg Goltermann (1824-1898) was a cellist and composer. He studied in Dresden with Kummer and after taught the cello class at the Prague Conservatory; one of his most famous students was David Popper. He also became the director of the Frankfurt Stadttheater. Most of his compositions were for the cello.
His fourth concerto is considered the "student's concerto" because it is the easiest of his five concerti. His music is rarely if ever performed in concerts; instead his concertos are studied by students to learn technique and get a basic understanding of what a concerto is.
