Theodor Gaude (1782- ) was born in Wesel, Germany. He escaped his salesman's apprenticeship and took guitar lessons. In Paris he became a master of the guitar. In 1814 he was invited to concertize in Russia but had to cancel the tour because of illness. After his recovery he settled in Hamburg as a respected teacher of guitar.
He wrote about 80 compositions for guitar. Musical newspapers of the years 1817-1833 report constantly on his music. Nothing is known about the end of his life.
