Peter Stäglich (1945 - ) was born in Bad Harzburg, Germany, and grew up in Braunschweig, Hannover, Flensburg and Hamburg. He received his first piano instruction at the age of 11.
He has a doctorate in chemistry and has worked in research and application. He also has given private lessons in mathematics, science and piano. He taught himself music theory and composition. He composes tonal music because he feels that a relationship to a tonic satisfies a psychological need, and that human beings in the 20th century are disoriented enough without his music adding to it.
His hobbies are earth science, philosophic and religious questions, chess, Go and personal computing. He lives in Kempen am Niederrhein with his wife and four sons.
Editor's note:
After a long, serious illness, Mr Stäglich passed away on 6 September 2021.
