Martin Derrez was born in Stuttgart, Germany in 1964. He spent his childhood in Niederstetten and Garbsen. He studied writing with Elisabeth Plattner, piano with Friedemann Rieger, composition with Aurel Stroé, family therapy with Henning Köhler, games with Werner Kuhfuss. He studied music and classroom pedagogy in Mannheim.
For the past sixteen years he has been a music and classroom teacher. Today he directs family counseling training at the ipsum-Institut Stuttgart. He also teaches piano, counsels parents and gives seminars on the topics of play and the art of living.
