Popper, David: Suite

Op. 16bis is Popper’s own arrangement of his Suite for Two Violoncellos. It is infectious, vibrant and dazzling music well within the grasp of any advanced cello student, and a must for professionals. Performers can read from clean, newly typeset parts with either Popper’s own original bowings and fingerings or modern performance directions by Alexander Hülshoff. The suite comprises five movements that progress through popular dance types and character pieces. It incorporates for the first time, as Popper intended, his Tempo di Marcia as a simpler but still compelling alternative finale.
