Wagnerheldinnen

This book is a tribute to thirteen famous female interpreters of these roles from different eras, who made a significant contribution to the high artistic standard of the Bayreuth Festival. The author presents the singers in individual portraits, in text and pictures, with some previously unpublished photos from private archives: Frida Leider, Kirsten Flagstad, Martha Mödl, Astrid Varnay, Birgit Nilsson, Ludmila Dvo?ákova, Anja Silja, Catarina Ligendza, Dame Gwyneth Jones, Hildegard Behrens, Deborah Polaski, Waltraud Meier and Nina Stemme; all living among them have contributed exclusively to the respective chapters.
