After the box office success and cult popularity of Pee Wee’s Big Adventure (1985), Tim Burton’s second feature film, Beetlejuice (1988), was his first bonafide hit and set him on the path to mainstream success with Batman (1989). The bizarre, off kilter visual personality of Beetlejuice became the blueprint for what would become Tim Burton’s distinctly personal style. Burton assembled a diverse cast of character actors: Michael Keaton, Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, Wynona Ryder, Catherine O’Hara, and Jeffrey Jones.
