Our Instrument of the Month for July
The English horn is a woodwind instrument belonging to the oboe family. It holds a permanent place in Romantic and modern symphony orchestras. As with all oboe instruments, the sound is produced by a double reed.
The name “English horn” does not come from the fact that the instrument originates from England. The most likely origin of the name is the French term cor anglé (angled horn), which evolved into cor anglais (“English horn”).
To help you get to know this instrument, we are making a free English horn piece available for download EVERY SUNDAY IN JULY.
