Hoeller, York: Monogramme

Performers, conductors, colleagues – the circle of musicians given a “monogram” by Höller is as versatile as the character, structure and pianistic conception of each work. The cycle consists of two groups of 7 pieces each, the fourteenth being a montage of all preceding pieces. “The structure of some of the pieces derives from the tone letters included in the names of the musicians the pieces are dedicated to. The others are based on a 22-note ‘sound shape’, a ‘time shape’ derived from it and the principle of ‘permanent variation’.” (Y. Höller)
