Tormis, Veljo: Maarjamaa ballaad

Veljo Tormis composed this work in 1969 when Estonia was living under the occupation of the the Soviet Union. The work holds a political message since Tormis poured into his songs the anxiety of the occupied country. In this work "St. Mary's Land" is the name dedicated to a conquered land by the ancient crusaders. The work is based on the text by Jaan Kaplinski.
