Originally composed by Bill Holman for the Stan Kenton Orchestra, Bob Curnow’s arrangement of “Solos” scores the melody in the unison saxophone section and is written for 8-brass. A straight-ahead, swinging chart based on “rhythm changes,” this is a hip, angular melody that sets up some powerful ensemble passages. There is lots of solo space for alto saxophone, trumpet, trombone, and piano.
