Koehler, Ernesto: Papillon
The Voyage Unlimited Series
This adaptation of Köhler's Papillon is part of Falls House Press's Voyage Unlimited series, a collection of transcriptions for flute and string quartet or string trio. This piece was first premiered in August of 1999 at the National Flute Association Convention in Atlanta by Don Bailey, flute, and members of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. Their New York premiere took place in October of 2008 by Don Bailey with the Attacca Quartet. Voyage Unlimited is a New York nonprofit organization committed to the performance, recording, and publication of new and standard chamber music, headed by native Mississippi flutist and teacher Don Bailey. Bailey recorded many transcriptions for the Voyage Unlimited series for Summit, which have garnered critical acclaim and worldwide airplay, but they were previously unavailable for public performance. Orchestrated by the esteemed Polish pianist Adam Manijak, Bailey's inspired series has helped create an exciting chapter in repertoire for flute and string ensembles.
