Using a familiar lullaby as a starting point and base for exploration, Mockingbird takes on a rustic American feel with syncopations throughout the melody and guitar-like figurations in the piano. Still, Schocker follows the music into the upper register in a dramatic passage that eventually devolves into a quiet descent, whence the opening theme returns for a reprise.
