Koprowski, Hilary: Elegy for Icarus

Icarus was a special personality: pleasant, clever, handsome, Berger De Beauce who gave us all of his unrequited love. He had lymphoma-leukemia and suffered all the indignities of treatment. He died at 4 ½ years of age, the greatest friend whose loss was as shattering to us as the loss of a member of our family. A few weeks after his death when I was very sad, I composed directly on the piano the Elegy in his memory. It was transcribed for organ by Michael Stairs and expresses the sorrow I had after losing such a great friend. Hilary Koprowski
