Hindemith, Paul: String Quartet No 3

edited after the text of the Paul Hindemith complete edition by Giselher Schubert

Paul Hindemith made his breakthrough as the leading German composer of his generation at the first 'Donaueschingen Chamber Music Performances' in 1921 with his 3rd String Quartet Op. 16. The premiere caused a sensation: 'Something ingenious resounds. The boundaries of decency in chamber music are shattered,' was the verdict of critic Adolf Weisslig. The three-movement work bursts with imagination, melodic richness and expressive power. Grotesque moments meet sentimental sounds, virtuosity meets expressionistic expressiveness. The work presented in this edition is for the first time based on the scholarly Paul Hindemith Complete Edition – as a high-quality practical edition in the renowned Edition Schott. An integral part of the contemporary standard repertoire for professional string quartets.
