On the occasion of the 1000th anniversary of Brauweiler Abbey, located just outside the city of Cologne, in 2024, 10 composition commissions were awarded to composers who have a special relationship with the important Benedictine abbey. The very varied, sonorous works offer exciting and diverse insights into the work of contemporary composers writing for the organ. Michael Utz, the abbey's church musician of many years' standing, deserves credit for compiling this compendium, which brings together choral and „free“ works in various forms, including a „Brauweiler Blues“. The witty pieces of medium to high difficulty are exemplary of different trends in contemporary organ composition and offer rewarding material for organists who are keen to discover new things.
