Hofmann, Dorothea: Danse Macabre

My "Danse Macabre" uses the beginning of a song from the Baroque period: "Es ist ein Schnitter, der heißt Tod…" and the ¨persuasive power of the rondo form. The motif introduced at the beginning subliminally carries the text with it, which is now faded in again and again between the virtuoso dance scenes of the violin. The dance episodes increase in wildness and intensity until the "Reaper's Song" has the last word at the end. (Dorothea Hofmann)
