Shostakovich, Dmitri: Symphony No.1 in F Minor
To commemorate the 120th anniversary of Shostakovich's birth in 2026, the scores for his symphonies have been enlarged for easier reading. Symphony No. 1 premiered in 1926, marking Shostakovich's debut work at the age of 19 and his graduation piece from the Leningrad Conservatory. It was heralded as the "emergence of a modern-day Mozart" and was immediately taken up by international conductors after its premiere. The score is based on the "Selected Works of Shostakovich (Complete Edition)," published by the Moscow State Music Publishing House in the 1980s. It includes commentary by composer Nobuo Terahara, who is familiar with Russia during Shostakovich's time. Additional information is provided, including information on people involved in the composer's training during his youth and historical context.
