Schnyder, Daniel: Melousine

Melousine tells the story of the mermaid Melusine, who married the knight Raymond only on the condition that he never watch her bathe. Incited by his fellow knights, Raymond broke his vow, surprised her in the bath—and lost her forever. The music clearly evokes the knights’ feast, Melusine’s screams, and her movement through the water. The piece can be effectively combined with Carl Reinecke’s Undine.
