Fryklund, Aaron: Fractus

This highly rhythmic piece for young strings pulses from beginning to end with an intense, syncopated rhythm set against driving quarter notes. Fractus means something that has been broken into small, rough pieces and that perfectly describes the way this piece is put together. After the opening section of the piece, a seemingly quiet lull is quickly undermined by subtle moving rhythms under the surface. Set in E minor, Fractus features a variety of articulation styles to create excitement and intrigue.
