Olson, Kevin: Resonance

The FJH Ensemble Series

Driving rhythm and vibrant energy define Resonance, a fast-paced, Late Intermediate duet for one piano, four hands. Built around a recurring off-beat pulse, the music creates a sense of momentum that propels the piece forward from beginning to end. The title reflects this rhythmic idea with the way the pulse echoes and reverberates between the players, creating a lively musical dialogue. Both Primo and Secondo share in the rhythmic excitement through interlocking patterns, crisp articulation, and passages that demand careful coordination and ensemble precision. The off-beat accents give the music its distinctive character, producing a syncopated groove that is both engaging to perform and exciting to hear. Resonance offers pianists a rewarding collaborative experience and makes a compelling addition to recitals, festivals, and ensemble programming.
