Anton Stamitz was the sibling of Brother Carl Stamitz and the son of Johann Stamitz. He and his brother were already violinists in the Electoral Court of Mannheim.
Anton Stamitz had been in Paris since 1770 and played in the royal chapel at Versailles from 1782 to 1789.
n 1789 he had been diagnosed as mentally ill and his last known performance was in the very same year.
He is believed to have died 1809 in Paris.
