HEINRICH MARQUARDT, my maternal grandfather, born on March 4, 1896 in Bremen and died on April 6, 1987 ibid., Actually had "nothing to do with music." He was a bank clerk by profession, and his trade was commerce and finance. He had never actively engaged in music, but listened to and enjoyed it on the radio, television and at concerts. He had also not mastered musical notation, but still as a boy "composed" a little song in an imaginary language he himself had invented, which he had never written down, but sung to me personally and dictated the text when I was a little boy myself. At the time I was not in music either, much less in notation, but both text and melody were still stuck in my memory. So it had been possible for me, much later, already as a grown man, to write down the melody, which I had then exposed to the text in four-part harmony. Then the piece was further developed, expanded and instrumented for salsa band with vocals. Unfortunately, my grandfather had failed to tell me the translation of this fantasy song, which he had imagined to belong to a wild exotic tribe. At that time, I had not had the brain to ask him about it. Now I can not do that anymore, because since April 6, 1987, my grandfather does not take any medical appointments and does not give himself up with the Kinkerlitzchen this world otherwise. So the listeners have to be content with what is presented to them. Michael Drewes
