Johannes Sieß or Sies (born after 1460; † after 1521) was a Renaissance chapel master, singer, and composer. His biographical data is mostly unknown. Some sources cite him as a native of Austria. Sieß's sphere of activity included Bavaria, Montbéliard, Austria, Strasbourg, Tübingen, and ultimately Stuttgart. He is first mentioned as a singer in the Württemberg court chapel in Stuttgart in 1507. In May 1519 he matriculated as a composer at the University of Tübingen. His trail is lost in 1521 as court kapellmeister to Duke Ulrich in Stuttgart.
Of his compositions, only four German four-part songs have survived in Peter Schöffer's (des jüngeren [1475-1547]) Liederbuch von 1513 and are the only record to his activity. They are four love songs: 1. "Mich hat gros leid umbgeben." 2. "Ach lieb, was zeichstu mich". 3. "Ich schweig und las versausen das." 4. "Wer sah dich für ein solche an." In each case, the melody is the tenor.
