Ottilie Freiin von Herbert (* July 19, 1825 in Reifnitz near Maria Wörth; † September 26, 1847 in Lake Wörthersee) was an Austrian composer. She is known for the Carinthian song and at the same time her swan song 'I tua wohl' (åls wånn ma nix war) as well as her tragic disappearance in Lake Wörthersee.
Born as the third child (of seven) to Ignaz Joseph Freiherr von Herbert (1780-1856) and Theresie, née Perscha (1801-1835), Ottilie grew up largely under the care of a housekeeper due to the early death of her mother. Above all, music and art were very much encouraged in the family.
On September 26, 1847, Ottilie von Herbert went out alone at night in a rowboat on Lake Wörthersee. She did not return and her body was never found. On the console of her piano was found her composition ''I tua wohl'', written in a minor key, the setting of an unhappy love. It is considered the first folk song written in a minor key. Regarding the mysterious disappearance, numerous legends circulated from accidental death to an unhappy love to leaving with an alleged lover.
