Corona Elisabeth Wilhelmine Schröter (* January 14, 1751 in Guben, Margraviate of Lower Lusatia; † August 23, 1802 in Ilmenau, Duchy of Saxony-Weimar-Eisenach) was a German singer (soprano), actress and composer.
After the family (Corona was the first of four children) moved to Leipzig, Johann Adam Hiller trained the eldest daughter as a singer. In Leipzig, she met Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, who was immediately impressed by her. In October 1776, at Goethe's suggestion, she was engaged as a court vocalist and chamber singer in Weimar. Gifted also in acting, she became the center of Goethe's ''Liebhabertheater'' was the first actress to perform ''Iphigenie''. She played the leading role in Goethe's singspiel ''Die Fischerin'' which premiered in Tiefurt in 1782. In the play, she set songs created for her singing, including, for example, the ballad of ''Erlkönig'', the first ever setting of this poem. In Weimar, Corona Schröter attended the ''Fürstliche freie Zeichenschule'' which was sponsored by Goethe.
In addition to the settings of ''The Fisherwoman'', she published a collection of 25 songs in 1786. From 1788, she withdrew more and more from courtly life until she died of tuberculosis at the Saxon court in Ilmenau in 1802.
