Little is known about the life of this musician, a Franciscan monk and composer of masses, psalms, motets (including concertati), canzonettas, etc., all being religious in content. Some information about Casati's activities can be gleaned from his works, in which he is mostly referred to as “kapellmeister of Novara Cathedral.” He held this position from March 15, 1635, as successor to the musician G. Chinelli and probably until his death in Novara in 1641. As Fedeli documents, a certain Brother Girolamo di Mondondone was appointed his successor on November 11, 1641. Some of his compositions were published after his death by his friend and fellow friar Michel’Angelo Turriani. Despite his early death, Casati was highly regarded by his contemporaries, as evidenced by the wide distribution of his works, including abroad, and the words of praise in the dedications of some of his compositions.
