Johann Ludwig Krebs : Praeludium et Fuga ex f (organ, 2 manuals + pedal)
One of the few shorter preludes with fugue that Krebs left us is this prelude in F-minor with its fugue which radiates great seriousness. Especially when the prelude is heard on its own, it is convincing both in quiet registration (2nd MP 3) and in representative forte (1st MP 3). Especially in the latter case, the likewise restrained fugue can be advantageously followed first in the piano. Even if today, one likes to play such a work in (as possibly usual at that time) constant registration. A sound enhancing interpretation seems nevertheless quite appropriate which then lets the last bars flow again into the splendor of the sound given by the prelude.
