Part fantasy, part swashbuckling adventure, Tangled is all Disney magic. The tale of Rapunzel and her prodigious plumage is reimagined in this 2010 film. The film was a massive success for the studio, bringing in nearly $600 million. Critics and audiences alike were dazzled by the visuals and story, infused with lots of humor. The filmmakers called upon longtime collaborators Alan Menken and Glenn Slater to pen the songs. The pair wrote the five songs, while Menken alone created the score. The songs are very catchy and range in style from Broadway rock to vaudeville. The score, written for a large orchestra, is richly layered with comedy, adventure, romance, and fantasy. This is a score written in the grand tradition of Hollywood swashbuckling adventures. The soundtrack was recorded at the Eastman Scoring Stage under the baton of Michael Kosarin.
