Rushton Chantry, Leek, Staffordshire, c. 1690 - † Rushton Chantry, 1784.
Little is known about Davenport's personal life. He was born at Rushton Chantry, where he died at age 94; the chapel register noted that he had taught psalmody at Rushton for over 60 years. He was a composer of congregational psalms (West Gallery music) and a member of the choir of Rushton Spencer Chapel in the parish of Leek, Staffordshire.
He married Mary Smith at Rushton Chapel in 1724, and three of their children were baptized there in the 1730s. In 1747, he lived at Flashcrofts, a country house on the banks of the River Dane in the parish of Heaton. Nationally, Davenport is best known for his book The Psalm-Singer's Pocket Companion, printed and published in London in 1758.
